Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve

The best place to snorkel in Oahu.  We were little disappointed because of the snorkeling experience we had in Kauai, but overall we think it was a very safe and convenient beach for everybody. The locals were saying that you have to journey a bit out of the coral zone to see lots of fish.  There is a required video you have to watch about safety and protecting the coral and fish before you enter the beach.  There is one snorkel gear rental place on site, but it's a bit pricey so rent before you go.  Make sure to bring some water and food, since the only place you can buy food is a hike from the beach. (Mike said their hot dog was good.)

Price: $1.00 parking, $7.50 admission, Kids under 12 are free.

Open daily 6:00am to 7:00pm. Closed Tuesday.

We did a 1.6 mi (round trip) hike to the summit and it took us less than 1.5 hours. The trail was steep and strenuous toward the end, but we think it was a pretty easy hike.  A nice morning workout, we say. The view of the scenery from the top of the hike is amazing!

Price: $5.00 per car or $1 per person for pedestrians. CASH ONLY.

Open daily 6:00am to 6:00pm. Last entrance to Hike the trail is at 4:30 pm.

This beach looked exactly how Yeonhee imagined a Hawaiian beach look like: crystal blue waters and soft, white sandy beaches.  We originally wanted to have our ceremony here, but it was too windy and crowded.  Great beach for kids!

Free parking.

One of the best views in Oahu. This place is super windy, so you can do your 'king of the world!' moment. Great place to stop by on the way to Kailua or North Shore.

Price: $3.00 for parking

Lovely little botanical garden. There is a short hike to a waterfall with a small pool of water. A lifeguard is on duty, so you can swim safely in it. I think kids and elders will definitely enjoy this place, but admission is a little pricy.

Open Daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm, 7 days a week

Price: $15.00 for adults, $7.50 for age 4-12

tripadvisor review

Of the many different tours available, we only managed to see the USS Missouri Battleship tour. It was very educational and Yeonhee had much more fun than she expected.  If you want to do all the tours, it will probably take one full day. No bags are allowed, but there is a bag check station.

Hours: Open Daily 7:00am to 5:00pm
